Quitman Ten News Release, Rally At Local Church, SCLC, and Concerned Citizens....

December 23, 2010

Is Georgia News Media Giving Adequate Coverage of this Story?

TO:  All Members of the Press, Elected Officials, And Concerned Citizens and Beyond

Contact Person:  SCLC President Floyd Rose at 229-444-1938, Program Person

First there was the "Little Rock Nine" in 1957, then the "Jena 6" in 2006, then the “Valdosta 15” in 2005, and now we have the "Quitman Ten" in 2010.

Initial Television Coverage of the Arrest and GBI’s Action, along with Attorney David Miller’s Request for the investigation,

So TONIGHT because of the seriousness of what happened in Quitman yesterday, thousands should meet us tonight at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 1203 South Court Street in Quitman, Georgia, 31643 at 7:00 P.M. tonight, be there.

All concerned FREEDOM FIGHTERS will converge on December 23, 2010 to protest the arrest of ten of Quitman's most highly respected African American citizens, including Diane Thomas, and Linda Troutman, who were recently elected to the Brooks County School Board of Education, unseating WHITES who had held the seats in this predominately Black school district for years without QUESTION or CONTROVERSY. http://kvci.blogspot.com/

The charges stem from allegations of voter irregularities in the primary election in July.  However, they were not arrested until the Board of Elections had certified the election and declared them winners in the general election in November, and just prior to the time when they would take office in early January.

What is at stake is the quality of education for the African American students in this South Georgia County, whose school population is overwhelmingly Black.

The Valdosta-Lowndes County chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference believes that the charges and arrests were all designed to cover up allegations of, not only RACIAL DISCRIMINATION in the HIRING PRACTICES of Brooks County's largest employer, but the misuse of funds; along with a need for certain Whites to remain in power over the majority.

Join us TONIGHT to hear and learn more about the "Quitman Ten" and their quest for justice in this small southern town.  We are not who we claim to be in this STRUGGLE for equal JUSTICE, but WHO we prove ourselves to be; over a given period of time.
