Quitman, Brooks County Voting, GBI Investigation, Local Media Coverage of the NEWS!
October 18, 2010

TO:  Quitman Free Press, 112 N. Lee Street, Post Office Box 72, Quitman, Georgia 31643, Editors, Concerned Citizens, Civil & Human Rights Organizations, Internet http://kvci.blogspot.com,  READERS: NOT Published as "Letter To The Editor"  VDT!  SUBJECT:  Alleged Brooks County Voter Intimidation, GBI Investigation, and Citizens Right to Know

Local citizens have been informed that the GBI was investigating the Absentee Ballot process in Brooks County recently, and write-in candidates of Brooks County School Board Gary Rentz, and Myra Exum, (Jo Ann Collins, Probate Judge/election superintendent and three registrar board members, Beth Hurst, Melba Lovett and Myrtice B. Ives).  However little to NOTHING has been reported about Brooks County Voters complaining about being intimated by the on going investigation.  I received a call from concerned citizens on Saturday and on Sunday I traveled to Quitman.  While there I heard citizens complaining about alleged intimidation by investigators concerning voting by absentee ballot.  But voters were reluctant to provide more details because of fear.  They even showed me a letter that was sent out by a write-in candidate to many Brooks County Voters and I believe the letter should be examined by the State Elections Office concerning write-in candidates.

Moreover I believe everyone should be concerned about alleged voter fraud.  However NO Georgia Voter should be frightened or intimated to the point wherein they refuse to participate in the upcoming November’s Mid Term Election.  While in Brooks County several voters insisted that; “the citizens in Brooks County needed immediate relief and resolution from the U.S Justice Department because they had lost trust and faith in the local courts due to a lack of diversity even on the bench.

Local citizens spoke fervently about No Blacks being employed in and around the Brooks County Court House; except in janitorial positions.  I was also informed that a petition will be filed on Friday 9:30 AM, October 22, 2010 in Brooks County to contest the application of write-in candidates who seek to be included on the November ballot for the following reasons.

Count I.  Failure of either candidate to comply with the statutory dictates of OCGA21-2-135(a) (I) constitutes a direct violation of Election Code therefore, the candidacies must be rendered null and void.

Count II.  The changes is the means and manner in which candidates are qualified for writ-in candidates for Brooks County School Board Constitutes a violation of the pre-clearance requirement pursuant to Section V of the Voting Rights Acts of 1965.

Count III.  The petitioners seek a writ of Mandamus compelling that Jo Ann, K. Collins, Superintendent of Elections, to invoke her authority to disqualify candidates Exum and Rentz from seeking office.

We can only ask if Brooks County alleged pattern and practice of integrated segregation has contributed the lack of trust and faith in the Southern Judicial System when it comes to equal justice under the law in South Georgia.  God bless our beloved Republic and the real patriots in 2010!
